Mahajana Education Society ®
(MES) was established in the city
of Mysore in the year 1937 with the objective of developing an
institution offering value and need based education to the
general public. The efforts of visionary philanthropists like
Sri Ambale Subramanya Iyer, Sri Agaram Suryanarayana Pandit, Sri
G. Ranganna, Sri M.N.Jois, Sri.M.N.Ramachandra Jois and others
to leave a lasting legacy has become a reality, today.
The society is one of the premier educational societies of
Karnataka.The society is heading towards Platinum Jubilee. In
its big march it has registered tremendous impact upon its
surrounding by its pragmatic outlook and concern for human
values. Well-known personalities like late Sri. B. Rachaiah, the
former Governor of Kerala, late Sri Tulasidas Dasappa, former
M.P., Sri S.M. Krishna, the present Governor of Maharashtra,
noted writer Sri Poornachandra Tejaswi and host of personalities
from the field of Cinema, Sports, Social Service and other
Professionals form an illustrious line of its alumni.
THE MANAGEMENT
The management is spearheaded by well-known educationist and
entrepreneur,
Sri R. Vasudeva Murthy as President supported by a dedicated
team of office bearers. Sri.G S Subrahmanyam as Hon. Secretary,
Sri B V Sreenivasa Gupta as Vice President, Sri. N.Vijaya Kumar
as the Treasurer. The Governing body consists of learned
scholars, Ex-Vice Chancellors, writers, poets, thinkers and
people from a cross section of the society. It is the policy
making apex body, which is assisted by a full time
Administrative Officer.
The Mahajana Education Society runs a good number of outstanding

There is a need to introduce the college to those who desire to know about us. The
Mahajana First Grade College Prospectus gives a glimpse of our institution in such a manner
that one thorough reading of the same would enable a person to objectivelyassess the institution
and develop an understanding of the same.
Usually, students who aspire to join an institution and their parents, who are anxious, as they should be, are on the look out for details regardingthe institution they have chosen. They would like to know about the credentials of the institution, a bit of its
History, the courses offered, the fee structure and the rules and regulations that govern the courses among
other things.
Our ‘Prospectus’ provides all these and more. We have started with a brief introduction of our
parent institution – Mahajana Education Society and its Management and then about the college itself.Then, a brief narration of administration, which is followed by course catalogue, covering details aboutthe combinations offered, elective papers and core papers are given. Add on courses get a special
mention at this stage. Next we move on to the admission criteria – which contains 10 vital points pertaining
to admission. Rules and regulations of the college, dress code, attendance and disciplinary aspects, which
are of utmost importance both for students and their parents, follow this.Physical infrastructure occupies next few pages. Functional units called as ASIC Committees give
an overall view of the areas students can engage in, during his/her stay in the college. Certain unique
facilities offered by the college - healthy practices followed and goodwill promotional activities come
next. Repertoire of activities, list of successful students and details of staff composition are some of the
useful information for potential students of the college. Throughout, colour pictures have been used which have added value to this production. We end with

S.B.R.R. MAHAJANA FIRST GRADE COLLEGE |
Introduction
The MES started this college in 1982 and named it after
its then President Sri.Rattehalli Ramappa who had played a lead
role in bringing this institution into picture.Though it was
started as a women’s college in 1988-89, the college transformed
into a co-educational institution to catch a wider place to
itself.
Affiliation
The college has permanent Affiliation to the University of
Mysore, which has the reputation of being one of the highly
rated Universities of the country. The college has been
identified as Lead College by the Government of Karnataka to
pursue Total Quality Management activities in the district of
Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Hassan. Its dynamics and strengths in
Higher Education are well recognized and are attracting
international students as well. Last year the college admitted
10% of Foreign students studying under University of Mysore.

The college had the distinction
of being the first institution under the University of Mysore to
be accredited by NAAC. In its maiden attempt the college secured
four stars and created history. On completion of five years
after the first accreditation, the college volunteered to be
reassessed by NAAC and submitted the Self study Report in
January 2007. The NAAC constituted Peer team comprising
Dr.N.J.Sonawane-Chairperson, Dr.Sankaran RavindranMember
coordinator and Dr.Srikanth V.Deshpande visited the college for
three days from March 28th to 30th March for the
process of reaccreditation. The College has know been
reaccredited with B++ Grade.
Administration
The first Principal of the college was Sri G.S. Mylari Rao, a
retired professor of English, who served from 1982 to 1988. After wards three Principlas have
completed their term as
successful administratative heads.They are Prof. K.S. Boregowda,
1988 1989,
Dr. V.N. Nayak,1989 1999, Prof. P. Sarojamma, 1999 2006.
The present Head of the Institution Prof. K .V Prabhakara is
holding the office since 01.02.2006. He was heading the
Department of Commerce before taking over as the Principal.
During his tenure as the Head of the Department of Commerce, he
had also occupied the posts of Program Officer in NSS and had
commanded the college NCC unit for one and a half decades. At
present he is the President of Principals Quality Consortium,
Karnataka, pioneered by CLHRD. With his proactive approach,to
adminstration-together everyone achieves more, he has ushered in
a new work culture involving total staff and student
participation.
Silver Jubilee Celebrations
Dr. Abdul Kalam as the Chief GuestThrough the year 2007, the college held every activity under the banner of Silver
Jubilee year. The concluding programme is on June 1st 2008 in which former President
of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will be participating as the Chief Guest among other
dignitaries.
