Of Students Forum
|
|
In the academic year 2006-07 a paradigm shift in the structural
reconstruction and reworking of the existing student support units, took place.
It saw a systematized selection of Class Representatives (CRs) in the ratio of
1:10 and Organizing Secretaries OS) of various committees from amongst its members.
This resulted in successful establishment of a student network with a tremendous
reach out, ensuring full-fledged participation of student community in all
|

|
|
activities, realizing the objective of NAAC to celebrate year 2006 as the year of
student participation. This restructuring has been reinforced with the establishment
of the ASIC committees. The strength of the Students'Forum this year is 196 Class
Representatives.

ASIC COMMITTEES
|
To ensure participation of students and staff in daily administration and
establishment, a number of funcional units are at work. These units are small but
meaningful nucleus with well defined objectives before them. While executing the
earmarked functions, these units also act as Leadership Development Workshops.Broadly there are 4 types of functional committees.
They are :

4. Co-curricular Support
A total number of 79 committiees are in existence today. These committees function under
the guidance of a designated staff co-ordinator. The student organising secretary is chosen
from amongst the members of the Students' Forum, usually the senior most student.

This cell functions to bridge the gap between the
curriculum and the expected industry front, by holding
career-oriented lectures by senior managers and successful consultants. It also arranges for companies to
recruit students on campus, facilitating pre-placement
talks, written tests, group discussions and interviews.Our alumni are placed in prestigious companies like Goldman Sachs, InfosysTechnologies, Infosys BPO, Transworks, Dell, HP,

This unit monitors the TQM programmes and the Personality Development Programmes. PDP programme is offered in association with CLHRD, Mangalore for first year students of all the streams. About 400 students were trained in different facets of personality like building Self Confidence, Self Esteem etc. The faculty members trained
by CLHRD are facilitating this training programme.

GSE is a unique programme in the
campus to enhance communication and analytical
skills, which are the requirement of the day. Faculty
members of the college, who have undergone an
intensive training at Progeon (an Infosys
subsidiary), are imparting these skills to the
students to prepare them to face the challenges in
the industries

| Realising
the importance of English as the Lingua Franca of the world, training in Spoken English is offered to students on a need basis. This unit trained a batch of 20 students of BA., through Non-Correctional methodology. The facilitators of this programme are trained by

The Counseling unit functions in coordination with the Department of
Psychology. Academic, social, psychological and personal problems of the students are attended to individually or

| The Young Students’ Study Circle was set up in association with Family Planning Association of
India (Mysore Chapter) It provides a platform for the students to discuss contemporary social, political and economic

outdoor activities like trekking, rock climbing etc., |

AIDS
Awareness Cell (Sanjeevini Councelling Centre)
This centre is established to create awareness on
HIV/AIDS and other health related issues. It not only organizes
the
programmes in the college, but also in the villages with the active support of NGOS. |

Consumer
Forum
The consumer club aims at creating awareness among the students on consumer rights and legal issues involved in it. This club organizes seminars, lectures and demonstrations in the related areas in co-ordination with professional bodies and NGOs.

The FATAC is established in association with federation of film societies of India of southern
region. This club aims at promoting & cultivating the habit of watching quality movies which are intellectually stimulating and emotionally moving. |

Donor's Association
It was launched with the objective of Donate Blood, Save Life. The students and staff donate blood voluntarily to the needy. It helps students develop a sense of sensitivity and empathy towards

The Nature Lovers’ Club activities are aimed at creating an eco-consciousness among students through trekking, nature camps, special lectures and demonstrations. |

NCC
The NCC unit of the college was commissioned in
1989-90. It aims at inculcating discipline; develop patriotism and leadership qualities among the cadets. It motivates the cream of the youth to join the Armed
Forces. Basics of army training, camps and adventures are regular
features. The unit was nominated for the Best Institution Award during 2003-2004

NSS
Unit I and II
The NSS unit, true to its core value of commitment to society by social service, is involved in various constructive activities through shramadana with the objective of “ We for You”. It has been actively
in programmes like tree plantation, constructive work in villages
etc.,It has been Judged as the Best Unit at the State level and its officer as the Best NSS Officer for the year 2005-06. A 10 day camp is a regular feature. A proud moment for the college was the establishment of a second unit this
year. Two faculty members designated as NSS officers monitor the units.

Rotaract Club
The Rotaract Club is the youth wing of Rotary Club of Mysore Mid-Town. It has under taken various projects like Health awareness campaigns, Blood
Donation camps, Book donation and Bird adoption programmes. Adventure camps like trekking and river rafting form part of their activity. The club was recognized as the Best Institution based Club for the
year 2005-06.

(A Cultural And Theatre Troop)
It has a theatre alliance with Rangayana and offers a variety of theatre performances
through out the year. The performance of this troop in staging two
kannada plays was appreciated and well received at YUVARANGA-06. |

Department Fora:
To supplement classroom teaching and stimulate interest in the subject students
are provided additional vistas of learning in the form of fora for higher and creative
thinking. The college promotes co-curricular activities among the students through
these Department Fora. Academic progress with a touch of academic brilliance and
professional competence is achieved through the activities of the fora like Fests,
exhibitions, students’ seminars, extended lectures, Paper presentations etc., which
keep the campus ever dynamic.

The college has various in-house publications like
newsletters and department special journals brought out
periodically.

Achiever
This is an unconventional weekly brought out mainly to record the
outstanding performances and achievements of students and staff. It gives a glimpse
of the week through pictures and timely editorials.

Capitol
It is the voice of the Department of Commerce. Articles written by students
on commerce and business aspects is the main feature. This helps them develop
their writing skills. An additional feature is the Quiz Corner containing business
questions.

Chitta
This newsletter is brought out by the Department of Psychology with the
motto of creating awareness about psychology to the general public.

- MFGC online
The college has signed an MoU with Deccan Chronicle to be a member of
the Papyrus Club - the online newsletter. This facilitates the college to project its image
through online articles and illustrations which are accessed world wide. It is a monthly
feature. A team of student editors and a teacher convenor coordinate the work.

It is a fortnightly Wall Journal. It is brought out with the objective of creating
public awareness regarding various contemporary issues.

This is a monthly newsletter. It mainly covers campus news. Department
of Journalism plays a major role here, giving the Journalism students the necessary
practical exposure in news reporting and news printing.

This newsletter publishes the activities and on-going projects of the
Rotaract Club.

Annual Magazine - Mandara |
Mandara - the college magazine is brought out annually. This is an indigenously
prepared magazine which documents every activity carried out in the college in an
academic year. The 7 - time 1st Prize winner for University of Mysore, Mandara is
brought out in digital form also- probably first of its kind for a college.

Unique Facilities |

EDUSAT
The college has been linked to satellite-based education system for bringing virtual
classroom experience to the students and staff. We are the first college for UoM to
install EDUSAT facilities.

Group Insurance Scheme
A General accident insurance cover is provided to all the students of the college.

VSAT
This is an outcome of an MOU with Everonn Systems India Ltd. in which courses are offered to students on various
subjects including Effective English Levels 1 & 2, Placement Support
Programmes, Software Testing and Bio-informatics. It is sourced in
Chennai.

KSOU
Study
Centre
The college serves as the study centre of the Karnataka State Open
University,Mysore. Counseling classes for the students are conducted on Saturdays and
Sundays. It is judged as one of the model centres. About 800 students are allotted to this study
center for contact classes.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)
A full-fledged IQAC is in operation in the college. It monitors quality initiatives in
each and every field both academic and otherwise. Its main task is academic audit.

Feel Executive Programmes (FEPs)
To promote academia –industry interface, industrialists, Managers from the
industry visit the college on a regular basis to share their experiences and provide
insight to the students about the industry. Executive Development Programmes

Goodwill Promotional Activities Parents’ Association

To foster further
involvement of the stakeholders in
education, Parents Meet and
Parents Socials are organized.This
is a pioneer step at college level
initiated to bring the parents
closer to the learning centre by
the institute. It begins with an
orientation programme for the
freshers along with their parents.
Two subsequent meetings provide
the feedback, both academic and
general, during the year.
The parents form an important link
between the college and the
students. Their views and opinions
are rated high in formulating the
policies pertaining to their
wards. Parents’ meeting is
called at least once in a semester
to discuss their children’s
progress, apart from parents’
socials. Parents are welcome to
call on the Head of the
Institution or meet the HODs and
faculty members to ensure proper
monitoring of their wards. |
